SPEAKING IN "TONGUES"

First notice that the word unknown is in italics. This shows that it was added by the translators.

Pentecostal friends, and others who claim to "speak in tongues" will often ask"are you saved and do you have the evidence of other tongues"?That sounds so scriptural but is found no where in the bible.Their implication is that if you do not have this "evidence" then you are not saved. Nothing could be further from the truth. So then, let's look at the bible and find out what the truth is.

There were two types of "speaking in tongues". At Pentecost Peter, and the other apostles, spoke Hebrew and all who were present heard him in their own language. This was a supernatural occurance and was a sign to the Jews. The second type of "tongues" was given by the Holy Spirit for instruction to the churches.Keep in mind that the early churches had no New Testament and had to get instruction from the Apostles and the Holy Spirit. 1st Corinthians chapter 14 is considered to be the "tongues" chapter so let's see how God instructed it to be done.

verse 27 says If any man speak in an unknown tongue let it be by two or at the most by three and that by course;and let one interpret.Vs 28 But if there be no interpreter let him keep silence in the church...Notice that when tongues were in use in the churches they were done by only two are three and done one at a time. One person had to be able to interpret the others. There was no self interpretation as Verse 29 clearly says Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.

Now you can see from the above that nothing in the modern church matches these instructions. We have people babbling and no one interpreting, people babbling and claiming to be their own interpreter, classes on how to "speak in tongues", no limits on the number of people speaking and finally, the big one.

Verse 34 Let your women keep silence in the churches:for it is not permitted unto them to speak;but they are commanded to be under obedience,as also saith the law. This is a verse that is often misused by some but in the context of this chapter it is clearly referring to speaking in tongues. So,in modern churches, who is doing most of the "tongues" speaking? The women are.

There is no longer any need for "tongues "since we now have the complete word of God.Any revelations by "tongues" now would be adding to the Book and we are forbidden to do that in Revelation Ch 22 vs 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book,If any man shall add unto these things,God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
